A beach rescue

I was sick on Monday with a tummy bug. I am feeling much better today and have my appetite back again.

On Sunday night a man came knocking on our door at 11 pm asking for help. He was stuck on the beach in his father's ute and the tide was coming in. It was starting to lap at the back axle. Eddie took him to our neighbour, who has a tractor and often pulls people off the beach, but Hayden was away. A man who lives on the property went with Eddie and shone his head lights, so they could see what they were doing. The stuck man didn't know how to put the ute in to 4 wheel drive and tried to steer as Eddie was pulling him out, so you can imagine how well that went down. I could hear the truck roaring as it pulled. Eventually it came out and all was well. It took an hour out of our night.

Eddie went fishing yesterday and he didn't take a coat. It poured with rain, so he came home soaking, but with a kahawai so all was not lost. today wasn't so good. Something very large took hold of his hook and broke the rod. He was going to condensed the number of rods he has, but not quite like that and not that particular one of course. Isn't it always the way.

It's not very busy at the camping ground at the moment, so Eddie closed off some of the showers and toilets yesterday. That will make cleaning much easier and quicker. We'll re-open them when Easter comes around again.

I have put a new app on my phone that connects to your library and you can down load audio books, tv programmes and ebooks for free. You have to have a library card and I am not sure if it is just a New Zealand app or not. I have been listening to the Harry Potter series. I was going to down load the books on to my kindle, but I won't have to now. It makes working in the garden and cleaning more fun. It drives Eddie mad, because he starts talking to me and I can't hear him, as I am listening to the dulcet tones of Stephen Fry, who does a really good job at all the voices.

Technical Difficulties

Well here I am at last. I have a good excuse for not writing anything for ages. My keyboard on my lap top, gave up being able to write some letters and it could no longer do capitals. The lady in the computer shop said they get dust in them and they can't be opened to clean them. I ordered a new one, which she said would be 3 or 4 days. After 2 weeks it still hadn't arrived. When I rang on Monday morning they said it had been delayed because of the cyclone. The keyboards were in Gisborne. I am not sure why she didn't ring and let me know that. I cancelled the order and we went to the Warehouse and bought one off the shelf. Hooray I can type all the letters again. It interfered with genealogy too!  It is bigger than my old keyboard, so I am making lots of spelling mistakes while I get used to it. It came with a mouse too.

We were very lucky with Cyclone Gabrielle as it went around us. We had quite a bit of rain and some wind, but otherwise it was ok.  It was lucky the storm happened the week before the art deco event. It would have been awful with a lot of visitors in the town. The devastation has been horrendous. I don't know how you recover from something like that.

We had a lovely visit with Eddie's cousin from England for 2 days. We took them to the Awakeri hot pool for a soak, which they enjoyed and on Sunday night we went out to dinner. They were going to go to the art deco event in Napier. They ended up spending extra days in Wellington and going straight to my sister in law's for a few nights instead of meeting them in Napier.

Last week, my cousin and her husband, came for a quick visit on their way past. They are doing a tiki tour of the North Island. It's been a cousin week ha ha

We have had some lovely weather over the last 2 weeks, which has been lovely for a change. Today is a bit doubtful, but I have put the washing on the line and crossed my fingers. Like you do. So far so good.

Eddie went off to do a bit of fishing this morning, but  he didn't catch anything. It's been a while since he has been able to go out, so that was a bit disappointing. I guess that's why they call it fishing and not catching.
