Here I am at last.
Our holiday is going well and we have only had rain one night and a bit today. Very nice.
We left home to go to the airport at 7 am. We were about 15 mins on our way, when Eddie realized he hadn’t turned off the hot water cylinder. If it is left on there is a danger that it will empty a bit and burn out the element. We have done it once before, so we don’t want to do it again. Especially as we are away for 6 weeks.
We were going to leave at about 9 until we got an email from Qantas to say be at the airport 3 hours prior to leaving. We had a good run up and parked the truck at the park and ride place. The buses go around in a circle, so you don’t have to wait too long for it to come back around.
Katrina, Craig and Chris were there to meet us. We were going to go to the East St food market for tea, but it was really busy, so we came home and Craig ordered Thai while Katrina drove.
Katrina took us to a park in Brisbane called the White’s Hill Reserve. There was a lovely view of the city from the top. Eddie’s hip was sore by the time we got home.
We hoped to see a koala or 2, but there were none there today. Katrina has seen them there a couple of times. One day I will see them in the wild.
We went to see Harry for a night on Russell Island which is out on Moreton Bay by Brisbane. We went on the car ferry. We forgot to say we were visiting family as we would have got the fare a bit cheaper, but never mind.
Our next stop was to go to Crow’s Nest and see Ron, who is the husband of my friend who died in April. We had a lovely catch up with him. It wasn’t as upsetting as I thought it might have been.
We went to stay with Tristan for the weekend. We went out for dinner with some of his friends on Friday night and had a good laugh. We told a few stories about his childhood, which amused them all. On Saturday he took us to his work at Australian Offroad Caravans. Tristan looks after the inventory as things come into the warehouse. On Sunday we went to the Caloundra markets. We actually spent more money in the op shops ha ha. Tristan went off to work at 6 on Monday morning, so we got up to see him off and went back to bed until 7. We hadn’t been up long when he came home again. He didn’t have much to do until some containers arrived, so he decided to come home again.
Back to Brisbane to collect our campervan on Tuesday morning. After a briefing about the van we set off on our adventure. We were going to spend the first night with Noah and Asher, but they were ill with covid, so we will have to catch them on the way back.
We spent the next night at a place called Mudjimba. Lovely camping ground and a pretty place.
We have a Tomtom GPS, but it seems to have developed a problem of some sort and always wants to take us in very strange ways. We have given up on it and we are using Eddie’s phone instead. For some reason Tomtom didn’t want us to go on the motorways. Eddie reprogrammed it several times, but it made no difference.
So that’s the first part of our journey. I will send another chapter another day.
We have both had colds, but we are coming right at last. I also had conjunctivitis for a couple of days and lost my voice one day. Otherwise all is well ha ha.
Next time I hope to have pictures ready.
