Easter

I went and gave a pint of blood on Tuesday afternoon. It was my 89th donation. I am hoping to get to 100 before they say I can’t do it anymore. As long as I stay healthy it should be ok.

It was busy on Thursday and Friday, with people coming in for the Easter weekend. Eddie had marked all the lines around the campsites last week and people still can’t park in the right place. He was guiding people down and making sure they knew where to go. We were full for the weekend, so the doubtful  weather didn’t put people off.  I did an hour in the office on Saturday to give Louise a break.

Eddie can’t get over how much rubbish accumulates in a day. He had to do a second rubbish run on Sunday, as the bins were overflowing. The amount of food that gets put out is incredible. It blows us away.

The tractor is still in dry dock, so on Wednesday we went to Hamilton to pick up Louise’s father’s tractor, so the paddock can be mowed. A friend of our’s, (we used to work for  him on a farm many years ago) Mike Mexted came and mowed it on Thursday afternoon. It is a lot more modern gear than we have and it didn’t take him as long as it would have taken Eddie.

Last night we went and had dinner with Mike and Linda. They had cooked lamb shanks in the crockpot all day and they were delicious. The meat just fell off the bone. (Apologies to any vegetarians or vegans reading this).

Eddie had words with the tractor place and surprise, surprise they have started on it. They said they were short staffed, but we thought 3 weeks was a bit over the top.

We came home from Hamilton with heaps of feijoas. I found a few jars and cooked a heap up and bottled them. We had feijoa crumble the other night for dessert. We still have some to deal with, which I will have to cook soon before they go off.  I have also given some to campers to share the love.

Keeping Busy

The weather over the last 2 weeks has been lovely with only a little bit of rain. So much better than the summer was. The mornings are cool, but the days have been quite warm with a gentle breeze.

We are all braced for a busy Easter weekend. The weather forecaste is pretty good and we have an almost full camp.

To add to our excitement, the main door into the office wouldn’t unlock yesterday morning. Luckily there is another door. Louise had to get a locksmith in to open it. Otherwise all is normal.

We had a busy day yesterday. We went into Whakatane to get my haircut and the groceries. Then we whizzed into Edgecumbe and got our flu vaccines done and the petrol for the mower here at the camp. Back home to drop everything off; meat and veggies into the fridge and off again. Next stop was Rotoma for a quick lunch and then on to Rotorua to visit friends. We were going to see them today, but Frank was going to be busy with his job, so we had to alter plans quickly. We were quite tired when we got home and just had spaghetti on toast for tea. It was a nice visit as we haven’t seen them for quite a while. Sue was going to have to go and pick up the grandchildren and take them to soccer practice, but their mother was able to do it in the end, so we had a bit more time together.
