A walk to Cambridge

My right foot has been sore for a while, and so I finally took it to the doctor on Friday. I have plantar fasciitis in it. It is the ligament that goes from heel to toe and is a weight bearing ligament. Sometimes it gets damaged and causes pain! Quite sore when I have been sitting and first thing in the morning, as I can hardly put my weight on it then. So I am on anti inflammatory drugs and I am going to physio too.

On Sunday, the tramping club had its first outing after covid. We just had a walk in Cambridge. We started at Lake Te Hoo Utu. The lake was created when Lake Taupo erupted 1800 years ago with a dam of debris from the volcano. It was used by the local Maori for food and flax in pre European days. It was a bit wet at the start of the walk, but it didn't last long. From the lake we went out to a new subdivision, where there is a nice cafe that we had lunch in. On the way we went past an out door exercise area, which we all had a go on. A bit of fun. Then back to the lake and the car park. It was nice to be out and about with the club members again. Next tramp is up Mt Maungatautari, which is up, up, up. We aren't sure how we are going to go with that, as we haven't had a lot of hill work lately, as Matamata is so flat.

Not sure what this memorial was for, but it is quite cool.

There is a wetland area in the middle of the subdivision

COF for the 5th Wheeler

We have had a bit of trouble getting the COF for the 5th wheeler. it has an electrical magnetic system. We have put in bigger magnets, changed the linings and bleed the brakes of the dodge. On Saturday, we took the 5th wheeler to  Eddie's work, to put it over the rollers they have there to check their trucks before they go for their COF's. We were almost good enough for a new COF but not quite. Sigh. It has always passed before, so we don't really know why it is failing now.
We are finishing our jobs on the 10th July and going to Papamoa on the 12th. Eddie is having his prostate out in Hamilton on the 16th July. I will be staying at a nearby motel, while he is in hospital. When he is released, I will take him back to Papamoa. The hospital has arranged for the district nurse to visit us in Papamoa and he is also able to get his catheter out at Tauranga hospital, so that will make it easier.

We have decided to get the brake system changed while we are in Tauranga. We will stay in a cabin at the camping ground while it is being done. We are going to come back to work after  Eddie has got over his op and work until Christmas so that we have re balanced the bank again. If it did pass this time we would be wondering for the next 6 months if it was going to go through or not. Jim and Janice are happy to have us back here, so we haven't out stayed our welcome so that's a nice thing. My boss doesn't want me to go either and Eddie can go back to Swap's, so I guess it will be all right in the end. If it's not all right, it's not the end. We aren't happy though.

COF at last and other news

We have had some rain and now it is a lot cooler. Last week we were only 2 or 3 degrees cooler than Brisbane, which was quite nice.

We went and got the COF for the dodge on Saturday. We left home at 6. There was a queue of 21 trucks ahead of us when we go there just before 7. They had parked there overnight. There is such a back log after the lock down for 4 weeks. The office lady suggested we go to another station, not too far away. So off we went, with a couple in their camper van. They made us a drink while we waited which was nice. I had taken snacks, but not a hot drink. We got the COF. Hooray! Just the 5th wheeler now. We finally got home at 1 pm. A very long morning.
We had to get some work done on the dodge, which didn't quite get finished before lock down, so we were very delayed in getting it.

Yesterday some of the tramping club walked out to the Tower Museum (near where we live), so I met them at the gate and walked back into town with them and had a cup of tea at a cafe. It was great to catch up with them after all this time. Soon we will be back into it. Hopefully I will get a couple of tramps before we head off. We are leaving our jobs on the 10th July and going to Papamoa camping ground. Eddie has to have his prostate removed because of a tumor. His operation was delayed because of lock down, but we have a date now; the 16th July. We are going to a motel near the Waikato Hospital the night before as he has to be there at 7 am. I will stay there while he is in hospital. Once he is released, we will go back to Papamoa and he can heal on the beach. Once his is able to travel, we will be moving about and seeing the country again. We can't wait.
