bits and pieces from the last 2 weeks.

 The weather is starting to improve. We have had rain every day since about the 27th April. I haven’t gardened all week. I am losing enthusiasm to do it now that I know I won’t be here for much longer.

We bought a dehumidifier last week. We got one with a hose, so we can sit it on the bench and run while we are away. Leaving the van for 6 weeks with no ventilation seemed like a silly idea. There would have been mould for miles and the van would have  been very damp. We put it on in the bathroom yesterday and dried out our towels really quickly. 

I had to do a bit more cleaning last weekend, as there are a few people in for the weekend. Mostly people in permanent caravans.

Duck shooting started on the first weekend in May, so we were woken up to the sound of shotgun fire over at the lagoon on the other side of the river.

We moved our site last Monday from beside the office and down to a campsite for while we are away. It will be a bit more secure here than up by the office where no one can see it overnight. We were quite tired by the time we had finished. It seems harder to move a little way than a long way. We disturbed 3 frogs while we were moving. They are Bell and Southern Bell frogs. The Bells are a bright green and the other ones are a darker green. They are good climbers and we often see them up the walls in the ablution block.

Last Sunday my sister in law, Janice and her husband John came over for lunch. They brought pies, so that was nice for a change. For dinner we went to Mike and Linda’s for tea. Don and Tess were there too. Another couple from back in the day. We had a lot of reminiscing which was lovely. Lots of laughs too. 

A school boy was washed away in Abbey Caves near Whangarei, where we took our granddaughter, Abbey to when she came to stay with us. He was on a school trip, but I don’t know why they went in when the weather was so wet. There are signs at the entrance not to go in when it is raining.

People who were flooded badly with the cyclone, have been looted ever since. What horrible people. They need shooting. 

At last we have had a sunny, but cool day today. It looks like it might be nice for a week. Now that will make a nice change.

I got the garden finished that I have been working on for ages. Now I have to go back to the beginning. With luck I will get it done at least one more time before we move on. It is quite a mission getting up the slope and in amongst the shrubbery.
