A crocheted blanket.

The above photo is the quilt on our bed. Back in the 70’s I had a huge box of wool, which I eventually created the quilt with. We use it on our bed in the winter time. It is in desperate need of a clean and I am not too sure how to go about it. I thought of putting it in a bath, but getting it out again will be a challenge. A friend suggested putting a sheet under it, so I can use the sheet to lift it out and roll the quilt in it to squeeze out the water. I think it is a good idea and I will try it in the summertime. I will ask Louise if I can use her bath and lay it on her back deck. But that is for the future.

We had a really stormy day last Friday. Louise couldn't open the office door as the wind kept it shut. The sea was really wild with breakers all over the surface.

Eddie came home early because the road up to the face of the quarry is too dangerous. I was expecting him most of the day, but he didn’t get home until 2: 30, so that was a good day in spite of the weather.

On Sunday, we went for a ride on the motorbike. It was my  first ride and I seemed to remember how to be a pillion. Eddie had no complaints, except once when I got my foot stuck between the bike and the saddle bag when I was getting off. I also had to remember to brace my legs when we were going down hill or when he was changing gears. If I didn’t do that, I slipped forward in my seat. I was much better on the way home. We went to see friends first and then we went and had a fish and chip lunch at the general store at Port Ohope. Very nice they were too.

On Thursday, Eddie had a keratosis taken off his eyelid at Whakatane Hospital. He had to be there at 9, but he didn’t go into the theatre until about 10 30 am. Afterwards he got a cup of milo and sandwiches, which he shared with me as I was hungry too. They only get enough sandwiches for the number of patients.  We bought KFC on the way home for lunch. We haven't had that for ages, so it made a nice change.

Above is Eddie's eyelid and all the stitches in it. The dissolve so he doesn't have to go back and have them out.

A visit to Papamoa

Eddie had a cold last week, so he hasn’t been to work all week. He went back today. His nose has been like a tube of really sticky glue since the weekend. It is finally feeling better today and he can breathe again.

He finally  got his appointment on Monday morning to have the growth taken off his eyelid. It is happening on the 20th June, so not too far away now.  It is done under a local anaesthetic, so he doesn’t have to go in hungry.

On Saturday, I went up to Tauranga ( about an hour north of where we are living now) and caught up with my friends.I went to Peru with. Shiree, Jenny and Annmarie who was going to come with us and didn’t in the end. We haven’t seen each other for about 2 years. It was nice to see them again. We had a lot of laughs all day. Annmarie is house sitting for a friend in Papamoa. I have attached a picture of her front garden and the view of the sea. It’s a crazy house. It started off small and has grown, so it’s a bit like a maze to find your way in. There is so much stuff too. Ornaments from all over the world. It is very busy and I think it would drive me nuts. Jenny thought the owner should start up a shop and sell it all ha ha.

The views were lovely and the weather was so nice for a visit.

It's the first time I have driven myself anywhere for ages. I am usually the passsenger. It's amazing how quickly one can lose confidendence when you don't drive very often. I was very pleased with myself when I got home.

a dead battery

We were going to go for a ride on the bike on Saturday. When Eddie went to start it and the battery was dead flat. We were glad we hadn’t got our gear on before he started it. Eddie has found a battery online which will be here soon. It would have been worse if we went out and stopped for lunch and couldn't get it to go. Maybe next weekend.

Eddie woke up with a cold on Monday. He went to bed with a sore throat. He went back to bed after breakfast and was starting to feel better by the afternoon. He tested for covid and it was clear, so he was pleased about that.

It was a busy weekend being King’s birthday weekend. I don’t think I will ever get used to calling it King’s birthday when it has been called Queen’s birthday all my life. Every time I hear King's birthday weekend, I think of Elvis.

I got a good bit done in the garden on Monday. I got about ⅓ of the garden in front of the tourist flats. It's a lot easier now and I don't want it to get away when spring springs.

I took this photo down in Wairapapa. I don't think I have put it on the blog. It was a very pretty
tree.
